The Breakaway Made It

Rainy weather awaited the peloton on Friday’s stage of the Tour of Romania. After the queen stage, a theoretically easier day laid ahead for the riders, but some bumps in the profile still managed to split the bunch.

This made things difficult for the chasers, who ultimately never caught the breakaway. It was uncertain until the last hundred meters whether they would make it, but in the end Seth Dunwoody from Bahrain Devo made it. Out of the three stages, this was the second time a breakaway went all the way.

The best TUS rider was Nikiforos Arvanitou, finishing in ninth place. Bálint Feldhoffer is holding his fourth place in the GC.

Erik Fetter’s assessment:

“I’d say our Tour of Romania has been pretty good so far. Bálint finishing fourth on the queen stage is more than solid. Today we came very close to catching the breakaway; I also worked a lot after Niki (Arvanitou) made it into the first group so he could sprint at the end. Unfortunately, he was held back quite a bit, but still managed to get a top 10. Tomorrow and the day after we want to sprint with Niki and keep Bálint’s fourth place.”

Niki after Friday:

At the beginning it was raining but after 30-40 kilometers it was better. The weather was wet and slippery in the descents. Unfortunately I saw many guys crash but my goal was to be safe.

The break was quite strong but we nearly brought them back before the last 6 kilometers.

Tomorrow we hope for a calm sprint day and a nice result.
