On Sunday, the Tour of South Bohemia didn’t go to the big mountains anymore. Although the riders completed many small climbs on the final day, we could not expect any serious overall differences in advance
In the first and a half hour of the stage, the attacks were constant, and the breakaway only formed after 70 kilometers of racing. Our Czech rider Michal Schuran was also there. The breakaway worked well: Schuran and co stayed ahead until the last kilometers. However, the bunch, which arrived at a high pace to the final climbs catched the breakaway.
In the end, 13 people attacked from the peloton, and Bálint Feldhoffer was also amongst the group. Bálint finished 7th overall with his excellent racing. The Tour of South Bohemia was won by William Smith from Visma Devo.
Michal summarized:
“It was quite chaotic – we raced on full gas in the first 70 kilometers. It was really good to be in the breakaway after this start. I felt quite good today so it was okay. Unfortunately, they caught us 4-5 kilometers to go. Maybe we could push a little more but it’s hard to go on full gas after 80 kilometers in the breakaway. Cycling nowadays like this, the peloton always catches the attacks. I thought I had a good chance to have a good result because I was expecting much more from this race. But at least I was able to help the team. Now I have a few days off and later I will go to the Tour of Croatia.”
Márkó Tóth also celebrated his birthday during the Tour of South Bohemia:
“Unfortunately, I felt unwell for three days – I probably ate some bad meat before I travelled to Czechia. Because of that, I didn’t really have an appetite, and I was more likely to feel nauseous, and eating is important in a four day race. I just got better for the last stage – the guys surprised me with a chocolate cake, maybe that made me feel better!”
