The Bulgarian Tour started with a four kilometer prologue on the coast of Primorsko. On the not very technical course Ognjen Ilić won from Borac Čačak with a time of 4:21. Team United Shipping’s best was Nikiforos Arvanitou, who was 3 seconds behind Ilić’s time. Our Greek sprinter was followed directly behind, in fourth place, by Mihajlo Stolić, who finished 5 seconds behind Ilić. Zétény Szíjártó, who is in excellent form, finished in 17th place, 13 seconds behind the winning time.
A 122.5 kilometer stage awaits the riders on Sunday, and it is likely that there will be a bunch sprint in Burgas.
Niki after his third place:
“In the last three months I finished first, second and now third place in a prologue. So next time I hope I can win again. I am satisfied with this result because I didn’t have the best feelings today, after all it’s a good result. Of course I came here to win and the differences were so small. I am looking forward to the next stages and we will try to go for the GC!”
Zétény Szíjártó on the opening day:
“It wasn’t an easy course, but I wouldn’t call it very technical either. Based on the numbers, I had quite a good prologue, but I lost time in a few corners. My form hasn’t been bad in the past few weeks! I hope we can put on a good race with the guys.”
